Applied Wing Chun is the Lineage of Sifu Duncan Leung.

David Mathisen has trained in this Wing Chun Lineage since January, 1992

“I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and graduated from Aragon High School in 1987. I graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point in 1991, and was commissioned as a Regular Army officer in the Infantry.

I am also a graduate of the US Army’s Ranger School, Airborne School, Air Assault School, and the 82nd Airborne Division’s Jumpmaster Course.

My first duty station was at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. As soon as I arrived at Fort Bragg, I opened the Fayetteville yellow pages and looked for Martial Arts, and found the Wing Chun Kung Fu School of Sifu Brian Edwards, who had trained under Sifu Duncan Leung in Virginia Beach during the 1970s and 1980s.

At the legendary Tolar Street school in Fayetteville, many students were members of the Special Operations Community, the Law Enforcement Community, and the 82nd Airborne.

I first met and trained under Sifu Duncan Leung in 2012 in Virginia Beach, and later traveled to China to train Applied Wing Chun there as well.

Since 2012, I have also trained with my Applied Wing Chun brothers in Australia, Temecula, Utah, San Diego, and Illinois.

I am committed to helping you succeed and to honoring this incredible martial art of the 6000-year-old culture of China.”
